When is Android 6.0 Marshmallow coming to my phone?

Google has announced that its next mobile operating system update will be called Android 6.0 Marshmallow and that it is coming very soon. 

As is tradition, Google will release new Nexus devices with the latest OS preloaded, first. These are the new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, from LG and Huawei respectively.

But any new Android release kicks off the furore surrounding upgrades. When will I get Android Marshmallow? Who will get Marshmallow first? We're pulling all the details together so you have one easy stop to see when you'll get your next Android upgrade for your smartphone or tablet.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow release date

Google has announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow will make its debut on at the start of October for current Nexus device users, the end of October for the new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, and that it will be coming to other Android powered devices once manufacturers and carriers make it available.

Marshmallow has been officially released in final form on 5 October 2015. It is now available for those who want to collect the source files and update their Nexus devices.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: Nexus devices

Android Marshmallow (Android 6.0) will begin rolling out to Nexus 5, 6, 7, and 9 starting from the 5 October. There will be updates for the Nexus Player too for users of the device in the US. The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will come with Android 6.0 already pre-installed.

The Android 6.0 factory images are available for those who want to manually update their phones.

It looks like the over the air update for Nexus devices has also started, and we have received reports that the Nexus 9 in the UK has the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. (Thanks Tony for the tip.)

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: HTC

Unlike the other manufacturers out there, HTC operates a 90-day promise for updates, as well as promising that your device will be updated for 2 years following its release. In reality, 90 days is a target and some might get that update, while others might have to wait a little longer as it rolls-out in different regions.

HTC has confirmed that the HTC One M9 and One M8 will get an update at "beginning end of 2015" whatever that means exactly and that other devices it makes will also be getting updated to the new Google Android operating system.

The company has also confirmed that it will share further info regarding other devices in the near future.

Oh, and if that wasn't enough, the company has now confirmed it will be launching a new Marshmallow powered smartphone on 20 October. 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: Huawei

Huawei is often a little slower than other manufacturers to update devices. Huawei doesn't have quite the high profile as other Android manufacturers yet, but that might change with the launch of a Huawei Nexus handset.

But as the company is making the Nexus 6P, we could see Marshmallow coming to other devices like the new Mate S quicker.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: LG

LG was quick to begin rolling out its Lollipop update, one of the first to get an update out - and in Poland, no less. The Lollipop release date of 3 November was followed by an LG update on 10 November. It made minimal changes, however, to the existing LG G3 experience.

We've seen the first signs of a Marshamallow update for the LG G3 and LG G4, with Android 6.0 appearing as an option on a Korean LG support page. This doesn't give us a date, but it's movement towards being ready to address Marshmallow.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: Motorola

Motorola is a fast mover when it comes to Android updates. Thanks to minimal additions on devices, Motorola has sometimes updated as fast, or even faster, than some Nexus models.

Motorola recently confirmed, for instance, that the following Moto-branded devices will get Marshmallow:

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: Samsung

While Samsung may announce an update rolling out soon, it often takes a while to actually arrive. Last OS update, Samsung had its version rolling out 31 days after the Google launch. But not all phones actually got it right away. Variations in network can play a role here, and some see quite a delay.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: Sony Xperia 

Sony has published a list of device that will be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The list includes:

Sony says that it is working as fast as it can to bring this update to devices, although there's no confirmed timeline. We'll update as soon as we can.
